Commissioned by Bro. Stephen Lovasz, the original work is ink and paint on paper by Brother Ryan J. Flynn.
Though not a Templar, Bro. Flynn researched many of the symbols that the order uses and mixed them in with traditional Medieval symbology. The illustrations inside the large “B” depict a Templar facing the east in prayer, with a re-creation of an actual depiction of Jerusalem behind him. Below, the traditional depiction of two Templars on a single horse. In the details of the piece you see common medieval imagery, like the owl catching the Snail, symbolizing wisdom overpowering sloth. Additionally, putting a personal touch on the design, Bro. Flynn incorporated the architecture of Florence, Italy into the illustration on the right, as it is the city where he studied abroad in college.
This print is available for pre-sale, with a percentage of the profits being donated to the commissioners choice of masonic charity: The Knights Templar Educational Foundation Division of New York.
Anticipated availability of this work is 8/15/14
